Make the following four preparations:
Environment: Choose a quiet, warm room to avoid background noise.
Patient: Explain the procedure to the patient and obtain consent. Ensure the skin over the auscultation area is exposed, while respecting privacy and keeping the patient warm.
Equipment: Check that the earpieces are oriented correctly (usually angled forward), the tubing is intact, and warm the chestpiece by rubbing it with your thumb.
Yourself: Wash your hands and ensure they are warm.
